You will be amazed to see how Japanese pampas grass show kaleidoscopic beauty in Japan! If you look closely at Japanese pampas grass, you will realize that they change in shapes and colors, and that they change their atmosphere following their surroundings. This photo exhibition is all about such changes.
Japanese pampas grass is one of the best subjects of photography to me. I have visited various places for taking photos through this year. I found out that quite a few people go out for Sakura blossoms and autumn colors, but less for Japanese pampas grass. The color of the grass is usually beige or off-white so they do not stand out. But I believe that they can be one of the symbols of Japan's beauty because they are pure and simple enough to go along with anything.
I selected several photos which tell the attractiveness of Japanese pampas grass. I wish that you come to stop by places where Japanese pampas grass grow and feel Japan's beauty, and hopefully that you add some famous spots of Japanese pampas grass to the list of destinations next year.
If you want to know more about filming locations or how to take the photos, please check the links below photos. Now, please enjoy yourself!
Japanese pampas grass stand straight to the sky in the beginning of autumn. If you set something bright as a background, black silhouettes of the grass will add spice to your photo. Oze National Park is full of such nice places.
If you wake up early in the morning, it must be a good choice to go out for Japanese pampas grass in the neighborhood. The strong horizontal sunlight can let downs shine like jewelries. This is a special moment when Japanese pampas grass take the leading role in the nature.
In some places, and perhaps in a specific period and time, Japanese pampas grass have pure white ears. Once you get into the world of such white Japanese pampas grass, your body and soul will surely be purified. I took this photo in Sengokuhara of Hakone this November.
In the midst of autumn when the downs are yet to get fluffy, you might see the heavy ears making their whole bodies draw beautiful curving lines. It must be quite difficult to choose the best period for each place, but it is worth trying.

This is very much Japanese! I feel that Japanese pampas grass alone can be very Japanese so when it get together with Mt. Fuji, the atmosphere becomes perfect. As I couldn't take photos of the scene this year, I selected this photo from my album in 2009. Mt. Takao is a nice mountain where you can walk easily and can see Mt. Fuji well.
As the days go by, downs of Japanese pampas grass get fluffy and come to receive more light from the surroundings. You can find this scene the most beautifully in the sunset and sunrise time. The orange sunlight gives the breath of life to every piece of downs.
Once the downs got fluffy, they stand out well in the sunset time because they reflect sunlight. I would like to say that the figures of the waving grass are a symbol of autumn.
Fluffy Japanese pampas grass give gentle impressions to people. They must be a nice decoration of rest areas in any trekking courses in autumn.
Japanese pampas grass welcome people not only on the way of mountains but also at the peaks. If you choose relatively low mountains, you might find the surprising residents of the peaks.
At the end of Japanese pampas grass season, the ears bloom like a flower as if they try to show their willingness to live.
When many groups of Japanese pampas grass grow in the wide surface of a mountain, it brings the pretty refreshing atmosphere to you. Especially when strong wind blows, all the ears of Japanese pampas grass wave together to move your heart.
When the season of Japanese pampas grass ends, the whole bodies get brown. If you find such Japanese pampas grass in any waterside, please look closely at them. This brown color and the blue color of water must show a good harmony.
If it gets below zero degrees at night, Japanese pampas grass win this white decoration of frost. They shine in white under the sunlight in the daytime, and they also sparkle wonderfully and magically with your light at night.
